CHENNAI: When counselling for the general stream for admission to engineering colleges under the Single Window System (SWS) began at Anna University on Saturday morning, 41,381 seats were on offer. Contrary to earlier fears that only about 35,000 seats may be available through the SWS, private self-financing colleges surrendered more seats than they planned to. As a result, the numbers swelled to over 41,000 this morning, according to the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions officials. Electronics and Communications Engineering topped the list of branches with as many as 8,638 seats on offer. This was followed by Electrical and Electronics with 6,962 and Computer Science and Engineering with 6,825 the three most sought after courses this year. There were 4,737 seats in the Information Technology branch, which was also in demand among students. In the traditional courses, Mechanical Engineering offered 5,464 seats and Civil Engineering 2,597. The following is the full list of the seat matrix for counselling under the SWS.
