ERODE: A motel built by the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation at Nasiyanure on the National Highway is lying idle which can be used by Government departments, said the District Secretary, Tamilaga Vivasayeegal Sangam (Dr Sivasamy group) S. Periyasamy on Saturday at the Grievances day. The Collector, D. Karthikeyan presided. Some years back the Transport Corporation had built a motel on the National Highway for the bus crew and passengers. However it is lying idle. Mr. Periyasamy suggested that the motel might be utilised for housing Government offices. The President of the Mettur West Bank Right Bank Canal, R. Mohan demanded release of water for irrigation on the Mettur right and left bank canals from August 1. Kulandaivelu, member of the Consumer Council, Vengambur said that non-eviction of some highway encroachments had affected school children. Mr. Karthikeyan ordered the Highway Department to evict the encroachments. The PWD officials said they had sent a proposal to the NABARD for modernising Kalingarayan, Thadapalli and Arakkankottai canals. For Kalingarayan canal alone they expected Rs 10 crores from NABARD.
