This Day That Age
China on July 30 proposed a giant peace pact signed by herself, the United States and other Asian and Pacific nations. Mr. Chou En-lai, the Chinese Premier, who had previously suggested an exclusively Asian non-aggression pact, made the proposal in a foreign policy address to the National People's Congress in Peking, the New China News Agency reported. He warned, however, "if anybody should take our efforts as being a sign of weakness or imagine that pressure or threats will have any effect on us, he will not only meet with the opposition of the peoples of the world, but quickly find out that his calculations are totally wrong."
