dated August 1, 1955: India Office Library

An official spokesman in Karachi has contradicted the report attributed to Maulana Azad, India's Education Minister, that Pakistan had agreed to the transfer of the India Office Library to Delhi. He said neither the Prime Minister nor the Education Minister of Pakistan had agreed to such a proposal. He, however, added that there was agreement on only one point: that Pakistan and India as successors of the former Government of India were joint owners of the India Office and its assets. The Pakistan delegation, he said, had made it clear to India that the division of assets should take place in London where the library was situated.
