Charge sheet

Now that charges have been framed against them in the Babri Masjid demolition case, L.K. Advani and seven other leaders of the Sangh Parivar have to prove their professed innocence in court. The charge sheet deprives Mr. Advani of the moral authority to call for the resignation of Lalu Prasad and other charge sheeted Ministers.

Mr. Advani should resign as Leader of the Opposition in Parliament. He is most certainly innocent until proved guilty but it is only ethical that he relinquish the post. The charge-sheeted-Ministers-should-quit argument applies to Mr. Advani too because the Leader of the Opposition holds the rank of Cabinet Minister. He should at least quit before the RSS asks him to do so.

U.S. Iyer,
Bangalore

Sushma Swaraj has claimed that the framing of charges is reminiscent of cases being foisted on freedom fighters during the freedom movement. This twisted logic should be loudly condemned by all political parties before it finds acceptance among some as the Sangh mantra of "pseudo-secularism" did.

S. Raghuram,
New Delhi
