VTU bans cellphones in engineering colleges
Staff Reporter
BANGALORE:
The Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) has banned the use of cellphones in classrooms and laboratories on its campus and in its affiliated colleges.
A decision to this effect was taken at the university's Academic, Senate and Executive Council meetings held on Friday and Saturday.
A press release from VTU said the use of cellphones in classrooms during university examinations and internal assessments led to malpractice. Besides, during teaching hours in classrooms, labs and other academic areas, use of such phones disturbed teachers and students. The university has warned students that the cellphones would be confiscated if anyone was found violating the new rules.
