BANGALORE: Giving ample indication that the Congress is trying to make the most of the disenchantment among the youth for other political parties, the Union Minister for Power, P.M. Sayeed, today called upon the delegates at the "Prerna" training camp for southern region Indian Youth Congress to rise to the occasion, strengthen the party and restore its stature as the party of the future.

Speaking at the valedictory of the three-day camp, Mr. Sayeed reminded the delegates that even the Bharatiya Janata Party leader Pramod Mahajan has acknowledged that India's transition into a technology-driven nation has been possible only under the leadership of the visionary Rajiv Gandhi.

"You have for your inspiration the entire Nehru-Gandhi family where so many members have sacrificed their lives for the country", he said, and now it is the vision of Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, that is driving the United Progressive Alliance Government. In 14 months, we have shown that the Congress can never be left out of the picture, and there is relief everywhere that the party is back in action, he said.

He said with the Government's thrust on infrastructure development, economy and job-creation, the Indian Youth Congress members must use schemes such as the Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyuthikaran Yojana, the tools of technology, and the charisma of leaders such as Rahul Gandhi to turn the young generation into a Congress-friendly generation.

The State Youth Congress president and MLA, Dinesh Gundu Rao, asked the delegates to go back from the camp and reflect on the many non-political lessons they learnt. This is a camp, which had speakers from diverse fields such as academia, social scientists, environmental scientists, and others addressing delegates about what makes the young generation tick.

Recommended reading for the delegates, included the works of Nehru such as the "Discovery of India," Gandhiji's "My Experiments with Truth," apart from the Five-pint programme of Sanjay Gandhi, and the ideologies of Indira Gandhi.
