CHENNAI:
: The Tamil Nadu Government will encourage corporate giants to set up institutions of excellence which will help the youth acquire skills to become self-reliant.
Speaking at the sixth graduation ceremony of T.S. Srinivasan Centre for Vocational and Advanced Training at Vanagaram, Finance Secretary K. Gnanadesikan appealed to the TVS Group to set up similar institutions in other parts.
Lauding the TVS Educational Society for setting up the CVAT to develop human resource with multi-functional skills needed in production facilities, Mr. Gnanadesikan said that besides engineering colleges and polytechnics, such institutions were needed to meet the needs of the growing automobile industry. The CVAT is a joint initiative of six leading companies of the TVS Group Sundaram Clayton, Lucas TVS, TVS Motors, Sundaram Fasteners, Wheels India and TVS Electronics.
He outlined the State Government's initiatives in education on an outlay of Rs.5,000 crores.
Mr. Gnanadesikan gave away the T.S. Srinivasan Awards. Malini Srinivasan, Director, CVAT, who awarded diplomas to the students who passed out this year, hoped that the high performance of girls would change the industry's attitude to women.
