KOZHIKODE: The Beypore Port Development Committee has called for a concerted effort of the private sector, State Government and the Lakshadweep Administration to develop the port. The committee adopted a resolution at a meeting held at the Malabar Chamber here recently urging the Government to come out with a feasible project for the development of the Beypore port.
Priority
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy had given priority to the development of the port in the action plan last June. Including the Lakshadweep Administration in the development works would help in setting up the port within a year, they resolution felt. Committee general secretary P.G. Anoop Narayanan said development of the port would benefit the people of Lakshadweep as well as improve trade and commerce in North Kerala. Cooperating with the Kochi port and providing facilities for passenger ships to anchor at the Beypore port would give an impetus to the tourism sector in Malabar. Committee president K.V. Kunhammed presided over the meeting. Port Officer Captain Haridas C. Nair, who has been transferred to Neendakara, was given a farewell, on the occasion. Malabar Chamber of Commerce president C.P. Kunhimohammed spoke.
