THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State RSP leadership has taken strong exception to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy's statement that the RSP MP N.K. Premachandran had not suffered any injury in the police lathicharge in front of the Secretariat on July 8. RSP State secretary T.J. Chandrachoodan and Mr. Premachandarn told a news conference here on Sunday that the Chief Minister had ``grossly misrepresented facts'' and committed breach of privileges of the Rajya Sabha with his statement. They also distributed to reporters the discharge report from the Medical College Hospital, where Mr. Premachandran was admitted, stating that he had been admitted with contusion on left elbow and abrasion over the elbow joint with multiple contusions on the back. Prof. Chandrachoodan and Mr. Premachandran challenged the Chief Minister to come out with any shred of evidence to prove his claim and said that with his statement the Chief Minister had questioned the integrity of doctors as well as politicians. The matter had been raised in the Rajya Sabha and the entire House had unanimously recommended its reference to the Committee on Breach of Privileges of the House, Mr. Premachandran said. The Rajya Sabha member said he had to go around for a week with his left hand in a sling as advised by the doctors. Initially, the doctors had suspected a hairline fracture and put a slab on his left hand. Later, when it tended to prevent the healing of a wound on his hand, they put the sling. Signs of contusions and abrasions could be seen on his back even now. Besides him, 39 other RYF workers had also been injured in the police lathicharge and this is admitted in the letter that the State Home Department had sent to the Rajya Sabha Secretariat, the RSP leaders said. They also circulated copies of the letter written by the State Home Department in this regard to the reporters.
