Good response to CPI(M)'s `Bhikshatana' programme

People, associations come forward to donate cash, medicines


  • Over Rs 40,000 in cash, medicines collected
  • Fund-collection to be ongoing process
  • Medical camps in interior areas

    VISAKHAPATNAM: The Communist Party of India (Marxist)'s `Bhikshatana' -- a programme to collect cash and medicines for tribals suffering from malaria and viral fevers in the agency area -- evoked good response on Sunday.

    The campaign led by the Bhadrachalam MP, M. Babu Rao, the Centre for Indian Trade Unions State president and district committee secretary of the CPI(M), Ch. Narsinga Rao, and others went around Seethammadhara, HB Colony, Doctors' Colony, P & T Colony and other areas and collected cash and medicines from residents and various associations.

    Several residents' welfare associations, including Kshatriya Samkshema Seva Samiti, Vidyut Colony Welfare Association, LIC Apartments Owners' Association, Ambedkar Colony Welfare Association, MMTC Colony Welfare Association and HB Colony (VSP quarters) Association responded to the People watched with amusement when Dr. Babu Rao, with a begging bowl in hand, stopped passers-by and autorickshaws and asked them to donate liberally. ``We could get Rs.41,628 and 10 boxes of medicines worth Rs.50,000 which were dispatched later to relief camps being conducted at Minumuluru near Paderu and Vanthala near G. Madugula,'' Mr. Narsinga Rao said.

    The CPI(M) is organising medical camps from May 15 in interior areas after announcing the date and venue at the weekly shandies being conducted at various places.

    Mr. Narasinga Rao said they would continue raising funds and collecting relief material till there was a noticeable improvement in the condition of the tribals in the agency area.
