`Developments in JD(S) will not affect Government's stability'

Special Correspondent

It is an internal matter of that party, says Shivaram

GULBARGA: The Information Minister, B. Shivaram, said here on Sunday that the "rift" between the Deputy Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, and the Janata Dal (S) President, H.D. Deve Gowda, will not affect the stability of the coalition Government in the State.

Talking to presspersons, Mr. Shivaram said the developments in the Janata Dal (S) are an internal matter of that party. Mr. Shivaram told a questioner that the vacant posts in his department are being filled in phases. At present, there are 54 such posts and steps have been initiated to fill them.

On extending the Yeshaswini Health Insurance Scheme to working journalists, the Minister said the proposal is under consideration of the Government and members of the Karnataka Union of Working Journalists (KUWJ) and the Journalists Cooperative Society will be included in the scheme.

The Government is also committed to implementing the recommendations of P. Ramiah Committee on Small Newspapers, he said and added that the Government is considering increasing advertisements to small newspapers.

Earlier, the president of the Gulbarga district unit of KUWJ, Sharanu Gobbur, submitted a memorandum to the Minister seeking, among other things, allotment of a building for KUWJ in Gulbarga city. The Minister agreed to the demand and said directions will be issued shortly. The president of the North Karnataka Districts Newspaper Editors' Association, P.M. Mannur, also submitted a memorandum seeking more advertisement to district newspapers and implementing the recommendations of the P. Ramiah Committee.
