Ayub takes honours

CHENNAI: Formula Maruti and Formula LGB drivers fought it out brilliantly on the Irungattukottai race track in the fourth leg of the JK Tyre National racing championship here on Sunday.

In the Esteem category, with a grid of seven cars, Ayub Khan led from start to finish, leaving behind K.E. Kumar and Ashwin Sunder. And in the second race Ayub won with ease.

Gaurav Dalal won the FISSME Formula Maruti race one in style, but spun out of the second race, enabling Amitrajit Ghosh to win. Karuna Kadur took the third spot.

In the premium Formula LGB race, Raymond Banajee stole the show. Hyderabad's promising youngster Aditya Akkineni drove his best race to go past Ameya to finish second. But in the second race Sarosh Hataria staved off a stiff challenge from Ameya and Rayomand.

Overall championship points position at the end of fourth leg:

Esteem: 1. Ayub Khan (87 pts.); 2. K.E. Kumar (55); 3. Radha Selvaraj (44). Formula Maruti: 1. Amitrajit Ghosh (66); 2. Rayomand Banajee (58); 3. Gauravi Dalal (57). Formula LGB: 1. Ameya Walavalkar (63); 2. Sarosh Hataria (55); 3. Rayomand (55).

The results:

Esteem: Race 1: 1. Ayub Khan (12:57.492); 2. K.E. Kumar; 3. Ashwin Sunder. Race 2: 1. Ayub Khan (12:58.652); 2. Radha Selvaraj; 3. K.E. Kumar. Fastest lap: K.E. Kumar (1:15.695).

FISSME Formula Maruti: Race 1: 1. Gaurav Dalal (18:55.029); 2. Rayomand Banajee; 3. Amitrajit Ghosh. Race 2: 1. Amitrajit Ghosh (19:18.490); 2. Rayomand Banajee; 3. Karuna Kadur. Novices prizes: Sudhanand Daniel Rajan and Sudarshan Rao.

Formula LGB: Race 1: Rayomand Banajee (17:50.761); 2. Aditya Akkineni; 3. Ameya Walavalkar. Race 2: 1. Sarosh Hataria (17:51.720); 2. Rayomand Banajee; 3. Ameya Walavalkar. Novices prizes: Naveen Kumar and Saran Parekh.
