Free check-up and vaccination camp supervised by specialists

NEW DELHI: With a view to create awareness about growing ailments like heart diseases, diabetes and AIDS, the Health Care Foundation of India and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi will organise the annual MTNL Perfect Health Mela at Shivaji Place in Raja Garden in October this year.

The ten-day mela starting October 21 will feature various themes like "Heart, Diabetes and HIV Awareness" and "Making India Anaemia Free".

With more than 200 voluntary and non-governmental organisations participating, the mega event will address health problems through daily competitions, medical classes, demonstration, cultural and entertainment activities like magic shows and street plays. The special attraction for visitors will be a daily free health check-up and vaccination camp supervised by specialists from allopathy, ayurveda, homeopathy and naturopathy medicine systems.

According to K K Aggarwal, president of the Health Care Foundation of India, healthcare has emerged as a management problem and the mela, the 12th in a series, will provide new concepts and modules to tackle rising health problems. He also urged medical experts to devise innovative and cost effective technology to address such problems. The MTNL will organise a special exhibition on merits of telemedicine, showcasing the role of changing technology in the area of healthcare.

Besides major health ailments, the mela will also spread awareness about basic hygiene, physical fitness and adopting a healthy lifestyle through yoga and meditation.

The mela is expected to draw over a million people through its attractive blend of entertainment and health education programmes.
