PATHANAMTHITTA: The Government will take a decision regarding the SNC Lavalin deal, which reportedly had led to losses estimated at crores of rupees for the State, on Monday, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said. He was inaugurating the valedictory session of the three-day southern regional camp of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) at Mar Thoma Youth Centre in Adoor on Sunday. The Chief Minister said he had reviewed the progress of the ongoing Vigilance investigation into the deal with the Vigilance Director. The inquiry into the multi-crore deal needed a serious approach, he said. Mr. Chandy said steps had been taken to check encroachment of land in Munnar. The Government would adopt measures to improve infrastructure in schools, he added. The Chief Minister said the Vision 2010 envisaged a five-year development agenda. Tsunami victims' relief funds were being utilised exclusively in the affected areas, he said, adding that allegations in this regard were baseless. KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala, who presided over the function, said the party leadership camps would be held at the district and block levels.
He demanded an inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the SNC Lavalin deal.
Our Staff Reporter writes from Kollam: The onus of conducting local bodies elections on time was on the Election Commission, Mr. Chandy told presspersons in Kollam on Sunday.
The SNC Lavalin issue was not on the UDF's political agenda, he said.
"Since I head the Vigilance, I can only give the formal position based on investigations," he said. Investigations were progressing in the right direction, he said.
