CHENNAI: "He is not a comedian but an actor par excellence. He scripted the grammar for humour in cinema. Do not compare him with any other comedians. His way of success is basically hard work combined with talent. He is a born actor," said Cho Ramasamy at a book release function here on Friday.

A galaxy of stars was present at the function where the book "Sirithu Vazha Vendum", memoirs of actor Nagesh, was released by Mr. Cho Ramasamy. The book was compiled by Chandramouli, journalist, and was brought out by Vanathi Publications.

The first copies were received by actors Sarojadevi and Manorama.

Actor Sivakumar said, I have seen only three actors in the Tamil filmdom who have tremendous memory power; they were Sivaji Ganesan and Major Sundarrajan, apart from Nagesh. The writer has brought out only ten per cent of his experience in the book. Perhaps, one might see more of the actor's memories in another book soon".

Poet Vaali said "Nagesh is a `Jack of all Arts.' He is good at caroms, table tennis and cricket." Sarojadevi said "The minute Nagesh comes before the camera he transforms himself into a masterly actor".

Manorama said Nagesh idolised Jerry Lewis, Hollywood actor. "But I doubt if Jerry Lewis could do some of the roles Nagesh did on the screen. I was one of the fortunate persons to see his timing and acting power from close quarters".

Nagesh said he was not a born actor. "Today all my friends who have spoken good things about me have literally enhanced my spirits. This will keep me going for some more years. I am not a born artiste. But I will not sleep till I finish whatever I have started." Director Vasanth, Justice Bhakthavatsalam, A.Natrajan, former director of Doordharsan, Chennai, Nalli Kuppusamy and Vanathi Thirunavukarasu and journalist Chandramouli spoke.

The function was jointly organised by Bharathi Kalaikoodam and Vanathi Publications.
