Apollo gives global flavour to dental care centre

    HYDERABAD: The Apollo Hospitals Group has set up a highly specialised dental care equipment in Banjara Hills.

    Apollo Dental Centre (ADC), which was formally inaugurated by group chairman Prathap C. Reddy here on Sunday, is the group's first such venture in the State.

    Designed to cater to all kinds of dental needs under one roof with experts available for each and every specialty, ADC follows international protocols, comprising panoramic, cephalometric imaging and intra oral digital cameras and universally accepted infection control procedures.

    Dr. Reddy said the dental centre would be part of the group's effort to bring affordable medicare using the state-of-the-art equipment.

    Laser equipment

    Special Correspondent reports: An advanced and latest generation excimer laser `Allegretto wave eye-Q' was unveiled at Apollo Hospital, Jubilee Hills, on Saturday. The treatment enables patients to reduce or eliminate dependence on glasses and contact lenses.

    Speaking after the inauguration, Finance and Health Minister K. Rosaiah regretted that people were not able to afford the high cost of health care in the private sector.

    Dr. Reddy promised cost-effective benefits for patients. Film actress Trisha was present.

    Liver failure treatment

    City-based Centre for Liver Research and Diagnostics, Owaisi Hospital, in collaboration with Michi-In Bio Sciences of Chennai and Mebiol Inc., a Japanese biotechnology firm, is launching a novel research project to provide treatment for acute and chronic liver failures.

    C.M. Habibullah, director of the centre, will head the project. Dr. Habibullah's research team has earlier used cell therapy in treating diseases. But shortage of cells restricts this line of treatment.To overcome the obstacle, the present project will focus on expanding the cells in vitro (in the laboratory) and try manoeuvres to prolong its life and functional capability in vivo (inside the body).
