BANGALORE: Four decades ago, "The Sound of Music" created waves in Hollywood, impressing the classicists and the general public alike. The musicals, the dances, the singsong way of the actors had a lasting impression on the moviegoers of that era. The stage adaptation of this film did even better, touching the audience deeply. In Bangalore, it still does, thanks to a new series of shows at the Chowdiah Memorial Hall. Here is something urgent: Grab the tickets for the play from Supermarket, Brigade Road; Friends Fast Food, Koramangala or at Lusitania, Frazer Town. The show will stay alive on August 1 and 2 before the curtains. CAUSE Foundation president Leila Alvares Lynn directed the play. Sponsored by Aviva Life Insurance, the musical is presented in association with the CAUSE Foundation. The two have come together to help the Balajothi Trust. Proceeds from the show will go towards the Balajothi Centre for the Disabled. The first day of the musical had a sell out crowd of over 1,000 Bangaloreans, reliving the experience of "The Sound of Music." The guest of honour for the evening was wellknown playwright and winner of the Sahitya Academy Award Mahesh Dattani. Also spotted on the day were Som Mittal from Hewlett Packard, Manish Sinha from Microsoft Corporation, Bhaskar Menon from Mphasis and V. Chandrasekharan from Aztec Technology and Software. For the record, the Balajothi Centre for the Disabled is a day care centre for children with disabilities, which counsels and educates parents to take care of the children, conducts therapy and educational programmes for each child depending on the requirement.
