CHENNAI: The Chennai Kendra of Karuna International in association with Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan (PSBB) Senior Secondary School, K.K. Nagar, conducted a training programme on "humane education" on July 25 at the school auditorium. Dulichand Jain, president, Karuna International, inaugurated the workshop. Delivering the keynote address, Mr. Jain highlighted the need for inculcating humane values in education. He lauded the role played by the teachers in coming out with a 14-point activity programme that tried to imbibe compassion. An audio-visual presentation on `Animals and emotions' was well received by the audience. Mumtaz Alam of Craft Basket presented an exhibition of eco-friendly jewellery such as earrings and brooches made from waste paper and necklaces from banana fibre and earrings and brooches made with waste paper was an attraction. She also demonstrated how to make these items and requested the students to cultivate interest in such hobbies. A.R. Shanthilal Nahar, director of Nahar Institute for Creativity and Excellence, spoke on "Personality development through Karuna" and Praveena Devarajan, teacher, (PSBB), spoke on the importance of a vegetarian life style. Dr. J. Ramakrishna, academic council member, Karuna International, gave a talk on kindness to animals, First Aid and also conducted a quiz for the students. Padma Rani spoke on animal rights. The students of the school staged cultural programmes.
