HYDERABAD: On the expected lines, K. Narayana has been appointed secretary of the CPI State Council, replacing Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy. The senior CPI leader was the party's assistant secretary before being elevated. The nomination comes in the light of the reluctance shown by Mr. Reddy, who is MP from Nalgonda, in holding the post. He preferred to work more actively at the national level. With his election to the Lok Sabha and the recent demise of veteran leader P.K. Vasudevan Nair, the party has invited Mr. Reddy to play an active role in its parliamentary affairs. "I wanted to pass some of my responsibilities to my colleagues and invited Mr. Sudhakar Reddy to play a more active role at the national level," CPI general secretary A.B. Bardhan said. Though the name of Dr. Narayana had been doing rounds for some time now, the party could not take a final decision as some leaders were reportedly against his nomination. However, the State council, which met here on Sunday, in the presence of Mr. Bardhan, announced Dr. Narayana's nomination. The council also constituted the State secretariat. It comprises the party's floor leader in the Assembly, Ch.Venkata Reddy, E. Nageswara Rao, T. Lakshmi Narayana, K. Ramakrishna, Aziz Pasha, G. Mallesh, Siddi Venkateswarlu and B.V. Rama Rao, as members.
