Showers in city

MADURAI: The city experienced scattered showers for more than 30 minutes on Sunday bringing an end to a dry spell of more than a week. The sky was overcast during the day with some gusty winds shortly before dusk.

Doctor suspended

A medical officer working in the Tirumangalam Government Hospital was placed under suspension on charges of serious irregularities.

According to official sources, the Health department received several petitions against Ravi Kala, a gynaecologist, accusing her of indulging in active private practice and performing sex determination tests at her clinic. The Director of Medical Services issued the suspension order on Friday

Thevaram workshop

A workshop on `Thevaram' of Tiruganasambandar will be conducted at Sri Sathguru Sangeetha Vidyalayam between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on August 1 and 2.

The 171st ATM of the Indian Bank was commissioned at its extension counter in the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court recently. It was commissioned by Markandey Katju, Chief Justice, Madras High Court. With this, the bank has six ATMs in the city. Indian Bank ATM cardholders can now access 38 ATM centres in the city and 9,400 ATMs in India (with sharing arrangements with 13 other banks at no extra cost). — Staff Reporter
