New ration cards can be obtained after August 2

Errors could be rectified at tahsildar's office

TAKING THEM BY SURPRISE: Madurai Collector D. Raajendiran inspecting a ration shop in the city on Sunday.

MADURAI: Those who have not received their new ration cards could obtain the same from the office of the Taluk Supply Office from August 2, said Collector D. Raajendiran.

He inspected the process of distributing new ration cards at a fair price shop in Krishnapuram Colony here on Sunday. He found that two officials had not reported for the distribution work and directed officials to take action against them. Ration cardholders who did not have the old card or the acceptance form should appear in person and obtain the card from the tahsildar concerned at the office of the TSO.

Errors that might have cropped into the new ration cards could also be rectified at the tahsildar's office. The administration and the Supply Department have prepared a schedule for distributing the cards on each day of the week to the consumers. Earlier on Friday, the Collector and Registrar of Cooperatives R. Kannan undertook a joint-inspection of fair price shops in the district. The sudden inspection assumes significance as it was being conducted against the backdrop of complaints of interference by some anti-social elements in the functioning of fair price shops.

Recently, the authorities raided FP shops at Meenakshi Nagar, Villapuram, Avaniapuram, Jaihindpuram, and detected that some persons meddled with the affairs of FP shops. Action was initiated then. District Revenue Officer K. Asaithambi, Joint-Director of Cooperatives K. Sivaji and District Supply Officer M. Asia Mariam accompanied them.
