Letters to the Editor
The spurt in terrorist acts in Kashmir clearly demonstrates the failure of the UPA Government to tackle insurgency. I really wonder what is meant by zero tolerance that our leaders often talk about. The Government needs a greater resolve to deal with terrorism. We have failed to muster enough global support to pressure Pakistan vis-à-vis the violence in Kashmir.
Neeraj Kumar,
This refers to the report "Pack up and leave: Musharraf" (July 30). Pervez Musharraf's new-found courage directing 1,400 foreign students at madrasas to leave Pakistan is welcome. He has also let the cat out of the bag by saying it is a "totally different environment" today. Strangely, he has said nothing on what Pakistan's policy towards the ultras bleeding Kashmir is. And no one has cared to ask. In the war on global terror, the globe seems to be the U.S. and the U.K. and terrorism implies 9/11 and 7/7. It is for New Delhi to use the "different environment" to mount pressure on Islamabad to end cross-border terrorism. The iron is hot; strike now.
R. Radha Krishna Bhat,
