From brass lamps and urulis to idols of gods, the choice is varied

CHENNAI:
The annual exhibition-cum-sale of pooja articles gives one an opportunity to know about the handicrafts of various States.
"From brass lamps and urulis to idols of gods, the choice is varied. These items are collected from artisans living in remote areas and are exhibited for sale to help them earn a livelihood," says V. Ramachandran, who is in-charge of the exhibition.
Rudraksha beads with one to 21 faces are available for sale. The employees at the exhibition will assist the customers in choosing the right one that suits them.
Pooja vessels have been brought from Rameswaram, urulis from Thrissur and crystals from Brazil and Switzerland. The crystal chains and statues are much in demand, as many believe that they can take the excess heat away from the body. Worshipping crystal statues is considered auspicious. The exhibition is now on at the Khadi Gramodyog Bhavan. The sale is on till August 28 between 9.30 a.m. and 7.30 p.m. except on Sundays.
