CHENNAI: The Election Commission on Tuesday will issue instructions including on re-verification with regard to claims and objections made during the electoral rolls revision in the State, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Naresh Gupta said here on Monday. Mr. Gupta said that the three teams deputed by the EC had completed the review of the verification process in some districts. One of the teams had reached New Delhi. Based on the feedback, the EC would give instructions. The draft rolls were published in all the 39 Assembly constituencies covered by intensive revision. Constituencies which came under the six Municipal Corporations and Tiruchi, Hosur, Tambaram, Alandur, Villivakkam and Tiruvotriyur Assembly segments fell in this category, he said. The rolls had been displayed in the designated locations such as offices of urban/rural local bodies, polling booths and local post offices. In all these locations, individuals could get forms for inclusion or deletion of names and making corrections. Two websites www.elections.tn.nic.in and www.tn.gov.in/elections would become operational from August 4 to enable voters to verify their names. A constituency-wise search could be made using the elector's name or the electoral photo identity card number or by selecting the polling booth. A floating keyboard would be provided on the search page, Mr. Gupta said. An online registration facility would also be made available in English during the period of claims and objections up to August 15 on the websites. "Any person with [an] e-mail account, whose name does not figure in the rolls, can avail himself of [the] online facility," he said. The Delimitation Commission had given time to the associate members of the State to send their suggestions on redrawing the boundaries of Assembly and Lok Sabha constituencies by August 31. "The Commission has fixed the next meeting with the associate members to discuss their suggestions on September 13 and 14," the Secretary, Delimitation Commission, Shangara Ram, said in a release. The Chairman of the Commission reiterated at the meeting with the associate members in New Delhi on Saturday that the working paper under discussion was only a starting point for the delimitation exercise and was liable to undergo changes after considering their suggestions. The draft proposal under Section 9 (2) of the Delimitation Act, 2002 would be published in the State and Central Government Gazettes and would be taken up in public hearings after giving due publicity, he said. "Ample opportunity will be given to the public to place their suggestions before the Delimitation Commission and only thereafter final decisions will be taken on the composition of the constituencies," Mr. Shangara Ram said.
