Assault case: approver to be examined on August 11

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: A city magistrate court on Monday adjourned to August 11 the case relating to the assault on S. Radhakrishnan of Mandaveli three years ago. Examination of the approver in the case by the prosecution is likely to be done on that date.

When the case came up in the court of the XXIII Metropolitan Magistrate, S. Umamaheswari, on Monday, except the Kanchi Acharya, Sri Jayendra Saraswathi, the other 10 accused were present. The approver, Ravi Subramaniam, who was in judicial custody, was also brought to the court.

K.S. Dinakaran, counsel, filed a petition under Section 317 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (Cr.P.C.) seeking to dispense with the presence of the Acharya and it was allowed.

The Special Public Prosecutor, M.S. Kandasamy, said the examination of the approver may be taken up on August 5. Defence sought time and the court later adjourned the case to August 11.
