ALIGARH: Aligarh Muslim University has set up a Student Information Management System (SIMS) that will make available data pertaining to every student on the campus through its newly- established computer section at the office of the Dean of Students' Welfare. Inaugurating the new facility on Monday, the AMU Vice-Chancellor, Naseem Ahmad, appreciated the efforts of Muzaffar A. Siddiqui, the Dean of Students Welfare. Speaking on the occasion, the Income Tax Commissioner, S.M.Ashraf, said creating and managing a comprehensive information system was important for any organisation, particularly for a premier educational institution like AMU. Describing SIMS as a laudable step in that direction, he added that it was a definite precursor to a more comprehensive information system to include the alumni, faculty, students and vendors of goods and services catering to the needs of the University. According to Prof. Siddiqui, the students' data would be stored at different nodes in Microsoft Excel, while a memo space has also been provided to the University Library for library cards.
