Big win for AS C

BANGALORE: Army Services Corps beat Bharat Electronics Limited 6-1 in the D.S. Murthy & V. Karunakaran memorial hockey tournament here on Monday.

R. Bhengra (18th), Sunil (25th), Arvinder Singh (27th), P.S. Mehra (39th), Asif Ali (50th) and R.K Feroz scored for the winner. Jeevan was BEL's sole scorer in the 33rd minute.

Madras Engineering Group shut out Rainbow Hockey Club with a 3-0 win in the second match. Bikshal Bhengra (8th), K.T Bopanna (21st) and C.B. Devadoss 52nd were the scorers.

Mixed fortunes for KSP

Karnataka State Police (KSP) had mixed fortunes in the Basvanagudi Youth SC-conducted `A' division league for the Late Yeshodamma Memorial Cup, at its Netkallappa Circle courts, here.

While the KSP women triumphed with a 25-22, 25-17, 25-13 verdict over Sports Authority of India (SAI) for the women's title but the KSP men came a cropper against MEG & Centre losing out in straight sets.

MEG men powered by Premjith and Rajendran scored a quick 28-26, 25-17, 25-17 win in just 50 minutes to claim the men's title.

Shashi clinches title

Shashi Kumar claimed the title in the second State-ranking ten pin bowling championship, by beating the fancied Sethu Madhavan 636-569 in the final. Right through the tournament, Shashi Kumar put up a fine display averaging 195.15 in 33 games. Srinath Pobbati and Jignesh Patel finished third and fourth respectively.
