Power position turns surplus

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The activation of the hydel power stations on Srisailam project following copious inflows has placed the State grid in a surplus position.

With heavy inflows still coming in even after the storage in the project went up to 873 ft on Monday evening, power is generated from a combined installed capacity of 1,560 MW out of the six units on the left bank powerhouse and the six out of the seven on the right side. Only one unit, the seventh on the right bank, which has a capacity of 110 MW, is left out. This unit is under repair.

The rain brought double benefit to AP Transco--a drastic fall in demand, especially in domestic and agriculture sectors, and activation of the Srisailam hydel station.

The sudden benefit is such that the Transco has backed down some thermal stations and listed two others for annual overhauling
