Protest against `obscene' portrayal of women

Special Correspondent

GULBARGA: Members of the All-India Democratic Youth Organisation and All-India Mahila Samskrutika Sanghatane on Monday damaged hoardings and posters portraying women in a "demeaning manner" and burnt publicity material protesting against the portrayal of women as an object of desire by advertisement companies and brand owners.

The protesters, who came in a procession here shouting slogans against pornographic movies and magazines and the portrayal of women in a demeaning manner in advertisements and hoardings, gave vent to their ire over the portrayal of a scantily clad model in an advertisement hoarding by tearing a hoarding down and setting it on fire. The protesters pulled down hoardings put up at liquor outlet near Vallabbhai Patel Chowk and burnt them.
