Fuel stations directed to follow rules

Special Correspondent

`Most of the 52 outlets in the city are not complying with the law'

MYSORE: The Mysore City Corporation has cautioned owners of petrol and diesel stations in the city against operating the fuel stations without completing legal formalities.

In a release, the Corporation Commissioner, A.B. Ibrahim, said that there are 52 petrol and diesel stations in the city. However, most are operating without complying with the requirements under the law.

He said petrol stations are statutorily required to seek permission for construction under Section 299 of the Karnataka Municipal Act and building completion certificate under Section 310.

Likewise, dealers need to get a commercial license to operate in the city under Section 353 and seek permission to display advertisements and commercial hoardings under Section 134 of the Act.

However, it has come to the notice of the municipal corporation that most petrol bunks have not completed the legal formalities and are not complying with the rules.

Though no action has been initiated yet for non-compliance of rules, the corporation has warned owners of these establishments to get the documents in order.

The corporation has warned of serious action against those fuel stations that fail to follow the rules.

The Corporation Commissioner said fuel stations operating without the necessary permission will be identified, and Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation, and Essar will be directed not to supply fuel to them.

Mr. Ibrahim has also urged all fuel station owners in the city to fulfil the legal requirements failing which the corporation will initiate legal action against them.
