Widow moves High Court

Court allows withdrawal of murder case against Cong. leader

NEW DELHI: A widow has moved the Delhi High Court against an order of a lower court here allowing the prosecution to withdraw a case of murder and attempt-to-murder against the local Sikh Congress leader, Harcharan Singh Josh, connected with an anti-Sikh riot at Subzi Mandi in North Delhi on November 1, 1984.

The Capital had witnessed riots against the Sikh community in the wake of the assassination of the then Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi, on October 31, 1984. The revision petition filed by Jamuna Devi came up for hearing on Monday before Justice S.K. Aggarwal who refused to hear it without giving any reasons.

In her complaint, Jamuna Devi alleged that a bullet fired from the house of Mr. Josh in the Sabzi Mandi area in North Delhi had hit her son Chandrabhan and he had died on the spot on November 1, 1984.

Earlier, Justice R.S. Sodhi of the High Court had refused to consider the petition due to some personal reasons.
