A stitch in time saves... would be the thought tormenting the authorities of the Panangad North Upper Primary School, near Kozhikode. Two young lives were snuffed out when the school shed collapsed when a mango tree fell. The school authorities were a bit late in chopping down that old tree. The operation reportedly was delayed as the workers engaged, had failed to turn up. The parent-teacher association too has cause to regret. They failed to act on the proposal mooted at the PTA meeting to cut down the old trees. A teacher at the school regrets too. Had he warned students a few minutes earlier, of possible danger as the wind and rain lashed on that fateful Friday, the tragedy could have been averted. The teacher was in a state of shock as he enquired after the welfare of his students at the medical college hospital a few hours after the mishap.
