Australian women ready for their Ashes battle

Sydney: The Australian women's cricket team is all primed to take on traditional rival England after defeating Ireland 1-0 in the One-Day International series in Dublin.

Australia will play two Tests, five ODIs and its first international Twenty20 fixture against England over the coming month.

Australia retained the Ashes in 2002-03 with a 1-0 victory at home, and has not lost a women's Ashes series since 1963. In the 14 series played between the nations so far, Australia has won six, England two and the rest six have been drawn.

The squad: Belinda Clark (capt.), Karen Rolton, Alex Blackwell, Kate Blackwell, Sarah Edwards, Cathryn Fitzpatrick, Julie Hayes, Lisa Keightley, Emma Liddell, Shelley Nitschke, Kirsten Pike, Julia Price, Clea Smith and Lisa Sthalekar. — UNI
