THANJAVUR: Books are said to be the best companions. They can also be lifesavers if they deal with medicine. Hardly doctors share their knowledge with others by disseminating them in the form of books. N. Mohandoss, Nephrologist, Thanjavur Medical College, is an exception to this. Two of his books on medicine, "Vaanga, Maruthuvam Ariyalam" (Come let us learn medicine) and "Neerizhivum Nilayana Vazhvum", were released at Thanjavur recently. According to Dr. Mohandoss, people are ignorant of various aspects of health and lack awareness about diseases. This is the cause for them to be in perennial misery when diseases attack them. On the contrary, if they have knowledge about various diseases they can lead a safe life. Above all they need not fall prey to quack doctors and lose enormous money. "My books are aimed at enlightening people. That is why I called people in my book to learn medicine. ("Vaanga, Maruthuvam Ariyalam")" Dr. Mohandoss said. This book brought out by Panbu Publishers is a collection of essays written by Dr. Mohandoss on various aspects of medicine in journals and dailies. Dr. Mohandoss has written about almost all diseases like gastro enteritis, diabetes, eye diseases, eye donation, physical exercises, diseases that affect people during rainy season and during summer, snake bite, insect bite, etc. In his another book "Neerizhivum Nilayana Vazhvum" he had dealt in detail about diabetes and its management. Prof. K. Ramasamy, Deputy Director, Centre for Indian Languages, Mysore released the book "Vaanga, Maruthuvam Ariyalam". Dr. M. Balasubramaniam, vice-president, Indian Medical Association, received the first copy. Dr. K. Kalaiselvi, Dean of Thanjavur Medical College, released the other book. T.N. Ravi Shankar, Joint Director, Imaigal, received the first copy.
