BANGALORE: India is among the four countries identified by the U.S.-based Sun Microsystems for `major investments' in its global Mission Charter for the financial year 2006, according to its India Managing Director.

Sun's engineering centre in Bangalore, Beijing in China, St. Petersburg in Russia and The Prague in Czech Republic would see `major investments' in terms of facility and the number of people, Sun Microsystems India Managing Director, Bhaskar Pramanik, told reporters here on Tuesday.

Sun has invested $150 million in India since 1998 and India contributed `significantly' to Sun's global revenues, Mr. Pramanik said.

The company grew faster in India than in China and continued to outperform the industry. It recorded a 28 per cent growth in revenues (seven per cent more than the IT industry average) and 50 per cent increase in bookings for 2004-05 (ended June 2005).

During 2004-05, Sun Microsystems India added 164 new customers and demonstrated growth across all key segments of the market, including servers, storage, software, solutions and services, he said.
