Mohit stuns Amar in men's singles

BANGALORE: : Mohit Kamath stunned the top seed, V. Amar 15-7,7-15,15-6 and set up a title clash with Sashank Sastry in the men's singles event of the Malleswaram Association's Platinum Jubilee State-ranking badminton championship here on Tuesday.

Sastry beat M.D. Anup Kiran 15-6,15-2 in the other semifinals.

Amar, however, made the boys under-19 singles final at expense of Mohit at 8-15,15-5,15-9.

Ruth Misha made her second successive final of the tournament when she beat Soumya Padhye 11-3,11-3 in the women's singles semifinals.

Ruth, who had earlier won the girls' under-19 singles title on Monday, meets Monisha Vinayak in the final.

Nachiket Damankar bagged the boys under-10 singles title, beating Sharan Pillai 15-11, 7-15,17-15 in the final.

In the under-13 boys section, Chanbasava, a qualifier from Hubli shocked the top seed, Vinay Hari, 15-10,15-5.

The following players made the last four round in the under-16 singles event: Boys: Adiitya R. Prakash, Udit Hegde, B. Nithin and Anup Kiran. Girls: Monsiha Vinayak, Ankita Ashok, Tanya Ravi and Sonal More.

The results (semifinals):

Men's singles: Mohit Kamath bt V. Amar 15-7, 7-15, 15-6; Sashank Sastry bt M.D. Anup Kiran 15-6,15-2.

Boys under-19 singles: Amar bt Mohit 8-15,15-5,15-9; Shashank Achar bt Sashank 15,15-12,15-4.

Women's singles: Monisha Vinayak bt G.M. Nischitha 11-3,4-11,11-4; Ruth Misha bt Soumya Padhye 11-3,11-3.
