CHENNAI: Five years after its initial publication of a compilation of the citizens' charter of various arms of the government, a Chennai-based non-governmental organisation, The Catalyst Trust, is releasing an updated and revised compilation. Its Trustee A.K. Venkat Subramanian notes: In July 2000 the first print of `Thatti Khetka Thagavalgal' came out as a compendium of the citizens' charters of major departments with which people have frequent contacts. There was a constant demand for the book.
Second edition
The second edition will be released by Central Vigilance Commissioner P. Shankar at a function at the Anna Institute of Management on Greenways Road (P.S. Kumarasamy Raja Salai) on August 6, Saturday. "The idea behind the title is simple. When the State Government came out with the Right to Information Act in the late 90s, one of the avowed objects of the Act was to provide the right information to people so that they could question the government's functioning. Our idea is to provide the right information so that people can raise relevant questions," adds Mr. Venkat Subramanian. The book will be distributed to 150 Citizen Centres set up by the Catalyst Trust with funds provided by the Ford Foundation. The centres would use the book to ensure that the people of a locality got due benefits from the government without any extra effort of expense. Catalyst Trust can be reached at 24461597/1682/1683.
