No `faulty' meters

NEW DELHI: North Delhi Power Limited has claimed that during a test drive conducted by the Central Power Research Institute (CPRI) none of its electronic meters was found to be fast. CPRI, an independent Central Government agency based in Bangalore, had been engaged by NDPL.

The drive was undertaken by the CPRI engineers between July 28 and August 1. "Experts from CPRI tested 45 meters across the NDPL-supplied areas using an optical scanner with a high accuracy. Only one meter was found to be defective, that too running slow beyond the prescribed guidelines."

NDPL said these meters were manufactured by two leading companies, L&T and Genus.

Discoms' review

NEW DELHI: A 12-point action plan to regain power consumers' confidence was presented to Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit by the Director and Chief Executive Officer of BSES, Rakesh Aggarwal, at a review meeting here on Tuesday.

Mr. Aggarwal provided detailed information about the steps being initiated by BSES to redress the grievances of consumers and also to educate them about the functioning of the private power distribution company.

For her part, Ms. Dikshit said the discoms should ensure that there was no scope for the consumers to complain. She also emphasised that all grievances of the consumers should be resolved within a specific time frame.

Focus on child's potential

NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Wednesday said that while framing the national curriculum for school education, emphasis should be on realising the child's full potential.

Speaking at a Bhagidari workshop on "National Curriculum Framework" in the Capital, Ms. Dikshit said school education must be holistic and, apart from being academic, should also focus on a child's health, nutritional status, well-being and overall improvement in personality.

The suggestions for secondary and higher education which came up during the workshop will be sent to the Central Government for the National Curriculum Framework.

New sewer line

NEW DELHI: The Speaker of the Delhi Assembly, Prem Singh, inaugurated a new sewer line on Wednesday that would connect the main road from Virat Cinema to Mahila Mangal in Ward-62 of Dakshinpuri in South Delhi.

Mr Singh also inaugurated the boring and commissioning of two tube-wells in the parks of Block 9 and 10 in the colony. During the visit, he declared that around Rs 15 lakhs would be spent on the scheme of this sewer line and Rs. 12 lakhs on reconstruction of the road over the sewer line from the MLA fund.
