HYDERBAD: The Government is actively considering a proposal to create price-monitoring fund (PMF) to help farmers growing crops which are not covered by the minimum support price (MSP). The Marketing Minister Botcha Satyanaryana told reporters here on Wednesday that officials had been instructed to study feasibility of creating such a fund for the purpose. He said the Centre was announcing MSP for a few crops and many other farm products were not getting the much-needed support price. Crops such as chilli and tomato do not enjoy the MSP. Many a time, farmers are forced to resort to distress sale as the prices are low. To tide over such a situation, the Government intends to step in and bail out the farmers, he said. The proposed fund, he said, would give back to the ryots their investment on farm inputs.
