KARIMNAGAR.: "I did not target any employee individually. I strived to bring about attitudinal change and discipline among employees," the former Chief Minister and Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu said while responding to employees' complaint that they were harassed during his regime. Interacting with intellectuals and Government employees, including teachers and RTC staff, on Wednesday, Mr. Naidu said that there were no strikes during his nine-year rule and solved all problems amicably.
Literacy campaign
The TDP Government had launched a drive to provide quality education to students, recruited several teachers and campaigned for total literacy in the State by 2007. "I promised PRC to employees before elections. The Congress too promised and is now deceiving them,'' he charged, and said that unlike the Congress he would make promises only which could be implemented. "We have given profit incentives to coal workers," he said, and added that the workers did not vote for the TDP because of the false propaganda launched by the Opposition that Singareni Collieries would be privatised.
RTC properties
"The Opposition branded me World Bank agent. They also accused me of trying to privatise the RTC, which cost the party dearly in the polls," Mr Naidu said, and added that he had given lands to the RTC while the present Government was planning to sell RTC properties to private parties. Earlier, representatives of various teachers' unions, employees and RTC unions alleged that there was no transparency and accountability in the Government and regretted defeating the TDP in the elections. Former Ministers - E. Peddi Reddy and M. Damodar Reddy - former legislator K. Devender Rao and others were present.
Plantation drive
Later, Mr. Naidu participated in the tree plantation programme taken by Kakatiya Institute of Management Studies (KIMS) on its sprawling campus on the outskirts of the town. Speaking on the occasion, he called upon students to play a responsible role by participating in the social issues like protecting nature. KIMS Chairman P. Ravinder Rao and others were present.
