BANGALORE: Vehicular movement was affected for some time near Basaveshwara Circle and on Bellary Road on Wednesday when supporters of Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah staged demonstrations and blocked roads to protest his removal as the leader of the JD(S) Legislature Party. The police resorted to a mild lathicharge near the Basaveshwara Circle to disperse the protestors when they tried to march towards the Vidhana Soudha by violating the prohibitory orders. The protestors, mainly members of Ahinda, a forum of minorities, backward classes and dalits, blocked the road and tried to deflate the tyres of passing vehicles at the busy circle. They raised slogans against former Janata Dal (S) President, H.D. Deve Gowda. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) G.B. Chebbi told The Hindu that 90 people were arrested for violating prohibitory orders.
