Dhruv, Chetak cause ripples in High Court

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Hundreds of people in the Karnataka High Court got a glimpse of Dhruv, indigenous helicopter developed by Hindustan Aeronautic Ltd (HAL), when it hovered over the statue of Sir Mark Cubbon on Wednesday. HAL wanted to photograph the helicopter in the background of the Vidhana Soudha building.

It had sought permission from the State Government to aerially photograph Dhruv.

While Dhruv hovered over the statue for several minutes, a camera team in a Chetek helicopter took several photographs of the indigenous chopper. The helicopters disturbed the court proceedings for some time. While some said one of the helicopters was too near the High Court building, the police officers said no rule had been violated. The Police Commissioner, Ajai Kumar Singh, said he was unaware of the incident. But the Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), H.C. Kishore Chandra, said it was a routine flight by military aircraft.
