Two groups clash

in Trilokpuri

New Delhi: Tension prevailed in an East Delhi locality tonight after groups of two communities clashed resulting in injuries to some people, police said.

Trouble broke out after some stones were thrown at a woman, a part of kawaria group in Trilokpuri area, the police said.

Soon other members of the group gathered and both sides indulged in stone throwing at each other, police said.

Police reinforcements were rushed to the scene and the situation was brought under control, police said.

Doctor arrested in admission racket

NEW DELHI: A doctor allegedly involved in duping people of huge amount of money in the name of getting their wards admitted to prestigious institutes has been arrested by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Delhi police.

According to the police, one Prabhat Mishra had complained that he had given Rs. 5.79 lakhs to Sunil Kulkarni who had promised admission for his daughter at Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences (Sikkim Branch) through the management quota. A case was registered in this connection on July 29.

Following investigations, the police arrested Sunil Kulkarni on Tuesday. During interrogation, he allegedly confessed to having duped Mr. Mishra. The police also came to know that there were at least five more persons who were duped of huge amounts of money -- amounting to about Rs. 25 lakhs -- by Sunil. They added that Sunil might have duped many more persons.

The police said Sunil, an MBBS, posed as consultant for various management institutes.

Held with porn VCDs

NEW DELHI: Seven persons have been arrested and thousands of obscene books and pornographic video compact discs (VCDs) allegedly seized from them in separate raids conducted by the South Delhi and the North Delhi police.

A South Delhi police team under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police (Kalkaji), Vijay Malik, carried out raids at Kalkaji, Okhla Industrial Area and Sangam Vihar on Tuesday and arrested six persons -- Rajiv Gupta, Raju, Satya Narayan, Satish Kumar, Mohammad Guddu and Avdhesh Bihari. The police recovered 850 obscene books and 950 pornographic VCDs from them.

In another case, one person Ajay Kumar was arrested at Subzi Mandi in North Delhi for allegedly being in possession of 2,400 books. Water supply to be hit

NEW DELHI: Water supply to large parts of South Delhi, Delhi Cantonment and New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) areas is expected to be affected on Thursday due to damage to the main pipeline supplying water to these areas.

According to the Delhi Jal Board spokesperson, there was a major leakage in the water utility's main pipeline (South Delhi main) at Pankha Road in West Delhi since Wednesday evening affecting supply to South Delhi, Cantonment and NDMC areas.

"Repair work was going on at the site. As a result, water will be supplied at low pressure at Moti Bagh, R K Puram, Vasant Vihar, Nanakpura, Delhi Cantonment and NDMC areas on Thursday," the spokesperson said.

In case of an emergency, water tankers would be available at DJB's R K Puram centre (phone numbers -- 26193244, 26193218).
