Supply only after completion of tunnel

NEW DELHI: Come December, Delhi is likely to start getting raw water for its ambitious Sonia Vihar treatment plant from the Tehri Hydro Development Corporation (THDC) in Uttaranchal after its tunnel work gets completed.

Though the Delhi Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit, on Wednesday said water would reach Delhi by October or November, the THDC Chief Managing Director, R K Sharma, told presspersons that the work on the tunnel would be completed in October and it was only in December that 30 cusecs (1,059 cusecs) would be released for Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.

The Delhi Government also held a meeting with the Delhi Jal Board and THDC officials. After the meeting, Ms. Dikshit said the Sonia Vihar plant would start getting around 300 cusecs water from October or November.

Meanwhile, the Delhi's Lieutenant-Governor, B L Joshi, on Wednesday expressed his unhappiness over the massive leakage and pilferage of treated water.
