This Day That Age
Delegates to the Sino-American talks in Geneva have agreed on entrusting repatriation of the nationals of the two countries to an Indian Commission. Preparations are already under way to transfer Americans in China to a repatriation camp near Peking. The Peking Government may agree to release shortly all American civilians held in China. The leader of the Chinese delegation, Mr. Wang Ping-Nan, is expected to outline an agreement renouncing the use of force to settle international problems. He has been authorised to assure the U.S. representative, Mr. Johnson, that Peking will not resort to force to liberate Formosa. He may tell the U.S. Ambassador that Peking wants the Quemoy and Matsu offshore islands to be handed over to Communist China and seeks American recognition in principle of Communist claims to Formosa.
