Award for G. Padmanabhan

NEW DELHI:
Biotechnologist G. Padmanabhan will receive the Gujar Mal Modi Award for Innovative Science and Technology for 2005.
Prof. Padmanabhan, a former director and now distinguished biotechnologist at the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore, is acclaimed for his groundbreaking work in recombinant DNA technology in life science research. He was involved in the creation of the National Biotechnology Board in 1982 and upgrading it as the Department of Biotechnology in 1986.
Recipient of Padmashree and Padma Bhushan, Prof. Padmanabhan's contributions include researches related to generation of modern vaccine initiatives against infectious diseases. He is now working on new drugs to fight malaria.
