PFC loan for power project

NEW DELHI: Power Finance Corporation (PFC) has sanctioned a loan of Rs. 1739 crores to North Eastern Electric Power Corporation for execution of the Kameng Hydro Electric Project with an installed capacity of 600 MW.

The project, located in West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh, is a run-of-river (RoR) scheme.

Its completion cost is estimated at Rs. 2485 crores at July 2003 price level, which is proposed to be met by Rs. 746 crores of equity and Rs. 1739 crores of debt.

The equity portion is being met by the Union Government while the entire debt is being met by PFC. The project is scheduled for commissioning by December 2009.

Blood donation camp

NEW DELHI: A blood donation camp is being organised at the Human Resource Development Institute of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) in Noida on Friday. The camp will be inaugurated by the Governor of Uttaranchal, Sudarshan Aggarwal.

BHEL is extending support to Him Jyoti Foundation which is organising the camp with assistance from Rotary Blood Bank.

Grant for hospital

NEW DELHI: The Government of Japan has agreed to extend a grant of Rs.32 crores to the Centre for construction of wards and procurement of equipment for the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Postgraduate Institute of Paediatrics at Cuttack in Orissa. A memorandum of understanding was signed by Yasukuni Enoki, the Ambassador of Japan to India, and Vivek Mehrotra, Additional Secretary in Union Finance Ministry, on Thursday.

The Institute provides health care facilities to undernourished children in the State.

Inter-school contest

NEW DELHI: Birla Vidya Niketan at Pushp Vihar-IV here celebrated its annual inter-school cultural competition "Utsav'' in the school premises recently. Students from 15 public schools of Delhi participated in the competition.

Trophies under various categories were bagged by Tagore International School, Birla Vidya Niketan, Springdales School Dhaula Kuan, and Delhi Public School R.K.Puram.

Naidu joins `padyatra'

NEW DELHI: Bharatiya Janata Party vice-president M. Venkaiah Naidu on Thursday participated in the "padyatra" undertaken by former Union Minister Vijay Goel in the Walled City in protest against the recent increase in power tariffs.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Naidu said though Delhi was the Capital it faced an acute shortage of power and water. "What impression would the world gather from this situation?" he asked.
