NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Thursday issued notices to the Union Government, the Delhi Police Commissioner, the Director-General of Police (DGP) of Haryana and other police officials of the two States on a petition by a commercial vehicle driver accusing a Delhi police Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of shooting at and causing serious injuries to him last year. Justice R.C. Chopra directed the above-mentioned police officials and the ASI Anoop Singh to file replies to the petition by September 7. The petitioner, Surender, alleged that the ASI had demanded Rs. 2,000 from him as entry fee and threatened to arrest him and impound his vehicle if he failed to meet the demand. When he resisted, the ASI thrashed him and later fired at him from his service revolver causing serious injury. He was taken to a hospital, counsel for the petitioner, Vineet Dhandha said.
