The export-import scenario has undergone a sea change in the globalised economy. Countries source items of consumption from other countries according to convenience and cost-effectiveness. The Russian Federation imports pineapple from Laos and Vietnam. But in terms of quality, the imported fruit is inferior to the Indian pineapple. This was disclosed by Russian Federation's Consul General Vladislav Antonynok at a meeting organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry in the city. It will be a challenge for the State to get a share of the huge Russian market for pineapples. Distance is the main hurdle. The transportation expense will escalate the price of the produce, and the exporters will find themselves in an unenviable position. Alternatively, the producers can opt for the export of value added food products. For instance, mango granules are available in Russia. Why can't Kerala work on similar projects, the Consul General asked.
